XSL JANUARY PLAYERS OF THE MONTH CHOSEN

Gonzaga's outburst puts him alongside Waltman, Dusosky

CHICAGO (Feb. 4, 2009) -- The Xtreme Soccer League honors the top offensive player, defensive player and goalkeeper in the league every month. January's Player of the Month selections are:

OFFENSE: Lucio Gonzaga, New Jersey: With 28 points in six January games, the second-year Brazilian grabbed control of the XSL scoring race. He is at 30 points overall, aided by a league-high six 3-pointers. In a period of three days, the second-year star had an 11-point and 7-point performance in a pair of Ironmen wins. Only three players in the entire XSL have recorded more points in their total season stats than the 18 points that Lucio registered that weekend.

DEFENSE: Troy Dusosky, Milwaukee: The veteran left-sided defender was strong throughout January, compiling 11 points and seven blocks. He was at his best in a 22-12 win over New Jersey on Jan. 24, scoring the go-ahead goal in the third period and blocking four shots. Dusosky leads the XSL this season with 17 blocked shots and is three points shy of 400 for his career.

GOALKEEPER: Danny Waltman, Detroit: Waltman was electric in January, stopping 80 of 99 shots (.808) in leading the Ignition to the top of the league standings with a 4-0 record in the month. For the season, Waltman has a .784 save percentage and a 10.286 points-against average.
